The Empty Nest

Having a sense of purpose is vital for each and every human.

Hello wonderful shoppers and friends,

Today, I want to talk about a topic that touches the hearts of many parents, especially moms. I know dad's feel it too, but on a different level. As our children grow up and start their own journeys, we find ourselves experiencing a mix of emotions. It's a time of transition, and it can be both challenging and rewarding. Sometimes, we can feel like we are losing a large part of who we are and are left asking what is our purpose now.

Understanding Empty Nest Syndrome

Empty nest syndrome is the feeling of loneliness or sadness that some parents experience when their children leave home for the first time. Whether they're off to college, moving out to start their own families, or embarking on an adventure, their absence can leave a significant void. This period can be particularly tough because, for many years, our lives have revolved around our children and their needs. When my children began to leave, I wasn't sure who I was anymore.

It's okay to feel sad, lonely, or even anxious about this new phase of life. You've spent years nurturing, guiding, and loving your children, and it's natural to miss their presence. Give yourself permission to grieve this change, but also remember that it's a time for new beginnings – for both you and your children.

Rediscovering Yourself

With the nest empty or close to being empty, it's an opportunity to rediscover yourself. Think about the hobbies and interests you may have set aside while raising your family. Have you always wanted to take up painting, learn a new language, or travel more? Now is the perfect time to start to explore these passions.

I know how easy it is to lose ourselves in the hustle and bustle of daily life, especially when raising a family. But remember, this is a time to focus on your dreams and goals.

Strengthen Your Marriage

Use this time to get to know your hubby again. Plan date nights, take trips together, or simply enjoy the quiet moments to talk uninterrupted. This can be a beautiful time to rekindle your relationship and create new memories together. When I'm not busy with the boutique, you can find me spending time with my loving husband, enjoying our beautiful view at home, or planning our next adventure together.

If your nest is not quite empty yet, try to take some time together now, so it isn't such a drastic change when that last child leaves.

Staying Connected

Now days, it's easier than ever to stay connected. Social media, phone calls, texts, email, or the good old fashioned visits are just some of the ways to stay in touch with you children. Share in their joys, offer support when needed, and celebrate their milestones. Even if they don't always make the first move to reach out, remember, you're still an essential part of their lives, even if you're not under the same roof. Contact them. Keep the lines of communication open.

Giving Back

One of the most fulfilling ways to cope with empty nest syndrome is to give back to your community. Volunteering can provide a sense of purpose and help fill the void left by your children's absence. Whether it's through local charities, church groups, or community events, there are countless ways to make a positive impact.

A Personal Note

As someone who cherishes family and community deeply, I understand the bittersweet nature of this transition. My 3rd baby flew from the nest recently leaving us 1 left at home. Sometimes the thought of not having my kids here makes me scared. But then I remember this, like every new chapter, is yet another adventure in life. Embracing this season with an open heart will bring so much joy and fulfillment into my life, and I hope it will do the same for all you fellow empty nesters.

Conclusion

Empty nest syndrome is a natural part of life's journey. While it comes with its challenges, it's also a time of growth, self-discovery, and new opportunities. Embrace the change, cherish the memories, and look forward to the future with hope and excitement.
